Sustainable Development at Asiasie

Our outdoor street markets, YATAI MTL and POCHA MTL, bring together thousands of visitors around Asian gastronomy and culture. For several editions, ASIASIE Events have integrated an eco-responsible approach into their operations and aim, for the 2026 edition, to take a new step in reducing their environmental footprint and embracing the circular economy.

In collaboration with RECYC-QUÉBEC, we implement awareness actions to encourage eco-responsible behaviors and encourage our participants to properly sort their residual materials at our sorting stations.

Our Objectives

For 2026, this action is structured around 2 objectives:
1
continue to assume strong leadership in residual material management in an event context
2
accelerate our ability to change the behaviors of industry stakeholders and our audiences.

Our ecological initiatives

Optimization of the reusable container system

In collaboration with Bopaq, YATAI and POCHA operate a reusable container system for meals and drinks served on site. For 2026, we aim to improve the return rate through enhanced return signage, simplified drop-off procedures, and awareness campaigns for participants visiting Bassin Peel.

Improvement of sorting stations

We are rethinking the layout and management of sorting stations across our entire site: strategic positioning, standardization of signage, and training for responsible volunteers.

Awareness for participating restaurateurs

Restaurateurs and caterers participating in our outdoor street markets are key players. We are implementing an eco-responsible integration program for them: documentation on best practices for residual material management (RMM) and eco-responsible criteria integrated into participation contracts.

Resource sharing with other gastronomic events

As part of the ASIASIE 2026 program, YATAI and POCHA share their site and equipment with other gastronomic events. This pooling of resources, service materials, sorting equipment, and logistical energy concretely reduces superfluous purchases, energy waste, and the overall carbon footprint of events taking place at Bassin Peel this summer.

Promotion of active transportation

We encourage modes of transportation requiring human physical effort (cycling, Bixi, walking) and public transport (metro, bus) to reduce GHG emissions, improve public health, and decrease road congestion.

Reduction of food waste

In partnership with local community organizations, YATAI and POCHA are implementing a protocol for recovering food surpluses at the end of events. A connection will be established with identified food banks and redistribution organizations in Montreal, so that unsold items can be quickly delivered to populations in need.

Reduction of single-use water bottles

By equipping our sites with water fountain stations, we reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles, in addition to lightening the carbon footprint associated with transporting bottled water.

Public engagement and awareness

YATAI and POCHA will reach several thousand visitors during their 2026 editions. We will deploy an integrated awareness campaign on our website and digital platforms, highlighting our eco-responsible actions, expected behaviors, and concrete results!
